Shandur Polo Festival

Shandoor Polo ground is the world highest altitude 3700 meters above sea level, ground. Every 2nd week of july the polo tournament will happen. The festival is more beautiful because of the traditional music and camping for the foreigners and locals. Polo is an ancient sport it starts from central asia in 6th of century BC. Basically the sports purpose was training of the guard of the king. After 6th century AD it became the national game of Persia. So the game spread Arabia, Tibet, China and Japan. Later it spread in south Asia, by the muslim conquerors. Polo is a Balti word meaning the ball. Rules is this that is there is only six player in both team and have to score the goal, no more rules, no fowl etc, because of this unique rule the game make more interesting. Historically the tournament starts in 1936. A british major named cobb. He played polo at night in full moon, from that date this tournament had start to yet now. Now the tournament became a brand himself. This ground is located at the shandoor Pass. Around the ground there are many spectacular, mountain and impressing green hills. The ground is located very far from the villages where people live. Can enjoy tents life, have to go their one day advance to see the opening day to enjoy traditional folk music and dancing. Can also enjoy the paragliding. Also opportunity of fishing, mountaineering, paragliding, trekking, hiking, horse riding and fishing, we can see beautiful lakes, black and white mountains and gorgeous flowers.
